High Five for Friday

Good morning, and another High Five for Friday today

1.I got to hear bagpipers. I could listen to them all day long.
2. It was July 1 (aka Canada Day) this week. I am so thankful that I am able to live in this country.
3. (this will be explained further in another post) But lets just say that playing games with my family is interesting and not a little strange, but so much fun.
4. We went strawberry picking this week. I might not have enjoyed getting up so early to do it. But I am enjoying have so many strawberries in the house.
5. Canada Day celebrations in the wee town of Priceville are becoming an annual tradition in our family. Great music and not so great music, hot dogs, pop, ice cream, and fireworks makes one fun evening.

H54F

Well, I am officially awful at doing this...but I guess it is better late than never. :) I also completely missed doing this last week so I might have a couple things in here from the last two weeks...

So here we go:

1. I finished my photo album book from MyPictureBook and it arrived this week. It is great to be able to see some of my pics from Northern Ireland and the Republic in a hard format.

2. The Strawberry Social at my church was this week. I really enjoyed running games and having fun with some of the other women in the church. (Plus the strawberries were amazing.)

3. A/C I am so thankful for the air conditioning this week. I don't do well with 25 degree weather sometimes, so having the means of cooling down when it is reaching the high thirties is a huge blessing.

4. Play trivia with my family. I love trivial pursuit and my Dad and I especially enjoy our running competition (and it also helps that I won this round 1up for the good guys.)

5. That I was able to get the time off to go camping with my parents in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to being in the great outdoors in Algonquin Park again this year. Maybe I'll see a moose, and a bear (and not too many mosquitoes.)

So here is my High Five for Friday (late Friday anyway) do you have anything that you are thankful for this week. I would love to hear about and praise God with you.

High Five for Friday

 1. I enjoyed making this bear this week. (update on pattern to come on blog). I am thankful that I finished it in time for the baby shower yesterday.

2. Speaking of crocheting, while I crochet I usually enjoy watching movies/tv shows. I have really enjoyed watching some more of the I Love Lucy episodes.

 3. After almost eight months of not having access to a piano, I have really appreciated having one in my house again. I am thankful both for the ability to play and enjoy piano and any form of music.

4. I have started reading The Hobbit again, (I am going to read the Lord of the Rings when I finish). I really enjoy this series and am looking forward to reading it in its entirety again. (And as an added bonus I saw the preview for The Hobbit part 2 this week. Another reason to look forward to December)

Thankfulness and H54F

Looking back at this blog, I realised that it was almost exactly a year since I have posted anything on here...

Wow. I am officially the worst blogger ever...so then I decided to start blogging again. Go figure.

I have started reading this week the book called Lord, Change my Attitude (Before It's Too Late) by James MacDonald. I picked this up just to do a quick breeze through to come up with some good ideas and concepts for the study I am doing on Christian service. I didn't really plan on it convicting me but I guess that God has different plans for me (and hey, that is usually always a good thing).

This book is meant to be read in chapter pairs. So after getting home from work last night I read the two chapters named "Replace a Complaining Attitude...." and "....With a Thankful Attitude." Right when I started, I was having thoughts of...

"Oh, these will be easy chapters because I am a thankful person. Cause I just worked six hours on the most boring shift ever and I didn't complain. Compared to most people I think I am super thankful."

........OUCH

Even looking back at those thoughts, I now see that I was complaining....and arrogant....and sinning. But not two paragraphs in, I started realising that ungratefulness is not only just verbal, it is in action as well. One of the most convicting things that James MacDonald mentioned in these two chapters, in fact, what he stressed, is that attitude (any attitude) is not based on history, circumstance, or other people. My attitude is my choice. So whether I have an attitude of thankfulness or an attitude of ungratefulness is completely my choice. When I choose to complain, then I am choosing sin.

So over the next couple of months I decided that I needed to do something specific to choose an attitude of thankfulness in my day to day walk The next morning I wake up and see that my sister has a new post on her blog Pursuing Expressions of Joy all about the H54F. Perfect. This sounds like a great way to start publicly showing thankfulness for the daily things that happen in my life.

So here we go my High Five For Friday

I am thankful for a job that gives me steady hours, new friends, and a mission field.

The church picnic where even though it was raining people were willing to come out and praise God, eat food, and play games. (Man, I am so Baptist)

I am thankful for being able to spend time with a friend that I haven't seen in over a year and to be encouraged by her.

I am thankful for kisses, cuddles, and soggy crackers from my nephew.

I am thankful for the rain this week, that is making my herb garden grow beautifully outside.

And after doing that, I am already feeling more thankful today. Goes to show you that thankfulness is a choice. So I challenge you, think back through your week. What are some things that you can be thankful for.
